• Westfall's High Shear Mixers create turbulent vortices for efficient mixing in a small space

Models 2800 and 3050/6000 in Series

A simple 2-stage solution for cleaning wastewater in a compact space

One of our representatives suggested integrating two Westfall mixers into a space-saving coagulation/flocculation water treatment system to provide more efficient mixing, for removal of suspended solids and particles from wastewater. Instead of the traditional long, serpentine piping system, this new combination provides the same result using a single short pipe.

STEP ONE Coagulation Phase
The first mixer in this innovative adaptation is a Westfall Model 2800, which provides the rapid mixing necessary to disperse coagulant throughout the liquid. This is the high “G” phase, where the 2800’s vortex shedding and intense shear zone turbulence provide rapid, high intensity mixing to form small flocs.

STEP TWO Flocculation Phase
The second, low “G” flocculation phase of the new system uses either a Westfall Model 3050 Mixer (low headloss) or a Model 6000 Counter-Swirl Mixer (mixing in 3 diameters). The bonded particles flow past the second mixer for slow and gentle mixing with the polymers required to help the particles form bridges and agglomerate into much larger flocs. Once formed, the large flocs are easily removed by filtration, straining, flotation or sedimentation.
