Install It and Forget It The Westfall Model 2800 Quietly Does Its Job, No Muss, No Fuss
Space-Saving Workhorse
Westfall’s Model 2800 high shear static mixer has a slim profile which allows simple drop-in installation in pipelines from 1/2″ to 120″.
A uniquely shaped opening creates alternative vortex shedding to achieve high performance mixing within a limited space. Choose from 3 aperture sizes:.7 BETA, .8 BETA and .9 BETA. CFD Analyses by Alden Laboratories show a CoV range of .008 to .05.
The 2800 is available with a wide range of injection ports and quills, and up to six additives can be injected simultaneously or in specifically timed stages.
Resists Fouling, Low Maintenance
The 2800’s unique design means that there is little fouling or accumulation on the mixer when they check it — there is very little maintenance required. We’ve had customers tell us they might bang it with a hammer to knock off some build-up once in a decade or two. Many of our customers have had these installed in their pipelines so long that the original engineer who specified it has moved on or retired. Sometimes newer personnel aren’t even aware it is there — except of course for the measurably consistent mixing results.
Materials & Quills
The mixer can also be constructed from titanium, zirconium, or Hastelloy® C-276 for use in highly corrosive environments, (substances such as chlorine dioxide), and can be designed for injecting up to six chemicals simultaneously.
Proven Performance
A decades-old 60-inch 2800 Mixer performed so well in a water treatment facility in a city in Maine, USA, that a second was purchased for another part of the facility (below). It mixes liquid sodium hypochlorite into solution.
The project engineer said, “The Westfall mixer stabilized chlorine residual levels in the clearwell over the full range of plant flows. As a result the District has seen an increase and stabilization in residuals further out into the distribution system.”
Even in spring, when in the past the plant typically dealt with its worst oscillations in pH and chlorine residual, personnel reported “rock steady residual numbers.”
Westfall’s Model 2800 has NSF certification.
